Central Veterinary Associates (CVA) is notifying all local pet owners of the recent voluntary recall from PetSmart of its Wellness Adult Cat Foods and Grreat Choice Adult Dog Food products due to metal contamination found by the manufacturer after consumer complaints. There have been no reports of illness or injury due to the contamination, but CVA cautions all pet owners that the metal poses a potential choking hazard in pets.
The recalled products were sold in PetSmart stores around the country, as well as through its online distribution networks – PetSmart.com, Pet360.com and PetFoodDirect.com. The recall includes products 12.5-ounce cans of its Wellness Adult Cat Foods and 13.2-ounce cans of its Grreat Choice Adult Dog Food with Chicken & Rice Classic Ground products.
“Though there have been no reported injuries from these products, pet owners should still take caution with regards to these products,” says Dr. John Charos, DVM, President/CEO, CVA. “We urge everyone who has purchased the aforementioned food products to immediately cease feeding it to their pets and to return it to the store from which it was purchased for a full refund.”
If you suspect that your pet is choking on metal, or any other type of item, CVA keeps its hospital in Valley Stream open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, including all major holidays.
