Alert: Adult Dog Food Recall from Blue Buffalo

Blue Buffalo Company recently issued a voluntary recall of its BLUE Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe Red Meat Dinner Wet Food for Adult Dogs due to potential elevated levels of beef thyroid hormones. The recall affects those products with the UPC code 840243101153 and best by date of June 7, 2019.

Thus far, there has been one report of a dog showing symptoms consistent with elevated levels of beef thyroid hormone, which include weight loss, rapid heart rate, difficulty breathing, vomiting, diarrhea, restlessness and increased thirst and urination.

“Though elevated beef thyroid hormones are not typically life-threatening, sick or aging dogs could be at an increased risk,” says Dr. John Charos, DVM, President/CEO, CVA. “We urge everyone who has purchased the aforementioned food products to immediately cease feeding it to their pets and to return it to the store from which it was purchased for a full refund.”

If you suspect that your pet may have consumed this product, be sure to bring them to your local Central Veterinary Associates location for a full checkup.
